The Webex LTI tool allows you to schedule a meeting with your Canvas course without the hassle of having to manually invite your students. Teachers and students can launch the meeting from directly inside Canvas, allowing for a smooth connection.

How do I add this LTI to my course?

  1. Open your course in Canvas.

  2. In Course Navigation, select Settings, then select the Navigation tab.

  3. Scroll down until you find the “Webex” tool, click the three dots, and select enable.

    1. Alternatively, click and drag the tool into the list of Enabled navigation items.

  4. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save.

  5. You should now see the Webex tool in your Course Navigation menu.

 

How do I schedule a Webex meeting in my Canvas course?

  1. Open your course in Canvas.

  2. In Course Navigation, select the “Webex” tool.

  3. Go to Meetings and click Schedule meeting.

    1. If prompted, sign in with Webex.

  4. Enter the following information:

    1. Meeting name—Enter a descriptive name for your meeting.

    2. Date and time—Indicate when the meeting takes place.

    3. Duration—Set how long the meeting will last.

      1. (Optional) Recurrence—Choose how often you want your meeting to repeat and when your meeting will end.

    4. Join rules—Choose what happens for people who aren't on the invite or who aren't signed in:

      1. They can join the meeting.

      2. They wait in the lobby until they're admitted.

      3. They can't join the meeting.

        1. If you want to choose they can't join the meeting, make sure that the setting Participants in your organization can always join unlocked meetings is enabled in Control Hub.

    5. Auto lock—To lock your meeting after it starts, check this check box and choose how many minutes pass before the meeting locks.

    6. Entry and exit tone—Choose the sound that people hear when someone joins or leaves the meeting.

    7. Mute attendees—Select any of the following options:

      1. Allow attendees to unmute themselves in the meeting—If you choose to mute attendees when they join, select this option so they can unmute themselves.

        1. Don't select this option if you want only the host or cohost to be able to unmute attendees.

      2. Always mute attendees when they join the meeting—Automatically mute attendees when they join the meeting. Allow attendees to raise their hands so that you can unmute them.

    8. Automatic recording—Automatically start recording when the meeting starts.

  5. Click “Schedule”

How do I start a Webex meeting in Canvas?

  1. Open your course in Canvas

  2. In Course Navigation, select the “Webex” tool.

  3. Go to the “Meetings” tab (should be selected by default)

  4. Under the Upcoming tab, find your meeting and click “Start.”

    1. Note that you can only start meetings that you created, even if there are multiple instructors in your class. If you did not create the meeting, you will only have the “Join” option.
