What should I do if I have a printer without a CARR tag?

How often are printers replaced?
Due to the university's new printer management program, printers are replaced by IT on a five-year refresh cycle. IT will only replace network printers. Local printers will be replaced with a network printer for the department.
I need a local printer to print confidential items. How can I get support?

IT does not support local printers. IT is currently working on transitioning local printers to network printers. If you need to print confidential items, you can use secure print to print to your department's network printer.
What printers can be purchased and managed by the university printer management contract?
Under the university printer management contract, office laserjet printers can be covered. Inkjet printers will be phased out for more cost-efficient laserjet printers.

We have a printer that is no longer used. How do we dispose of it?
IT will pick up and dispose of a printer at no cost to the department if the university printer management system manages it. Fill out: Remove Hardware Form
Printers not managed by the Printer Management System will not be disposed of by IT, and departments are responsible for any cost for disposal.

How can I order toner?
If your printer has a CARR tag, please submit a Toner Service Request form.
How can student workers get access to Toner Service Request form?
The Toner Service Request form is accessible to all full-time employees. If student workers or affiliates in your department need access, please fill out the P & D Access Request.
I submitted a toner request. How long before I get my toner?
Toner orders typically can take up to 7 business days due to shipment. IT does have a stock of toner on site for some printers.
Our office has toner we no longer need. What should we do?
A toner for a printer no longer in your area can be sent to IT. Please fill out Remove Hardware/ Toner to have IT pick up the toner directly.

How can I get Support for my printer?
Printers supported by the university-managed print contract can submit an Office Printer Service Request.
Copier support can submit: Xerox Copier ONLY Service Request
Does the university-managed printer contract support poster printers?
The university-managed printer contract does not support poster printers. Your department would need to process all repair support and toner orders. IT is not financially responsible for departmental poster printers.
If you need to purchase toner for your poster printer, don't hesitate to contact the University Purchasing Department. They can release any holds and process any request for toner purchases for these types of printers.
How do I find my CARR tag?

The CARR tag is located on the front of the printer. The equipment ID number and network status are also listed on the tag.
Can I use a USB on the printer/copier?
Due to security concerns, the university does not allow USB storage drives to be connected to the printers. You can scan a file from a networked copier/scanner to your computer. University-managed computers can be connected to networked printers to allow you to print.
How can student workers/ GA print in the office?
Student workers/ GA’s would only be able to print to an office printer from an IT-managed desktop. Student workers/ GA should NOT be printing from their personal devices. If you have a university-managed laptop and would like student workers/GA’s to print to the office printer, they would need to connect locally to the printer or the wired network.
Can I connect my printer to the wireless network?
The university does not allow for printers to be on the wireless network. Printers connected to the wireless network will be removed, and the device will be blocked from accessing the network. Printers can be connected to the wired network where available.
