What is Apporto?

Apporto is a cloud-based virtual desktop service that allows students to access a remote Windows desktop from any device with a web browser. Students can connect to their external cloud drives, such as OneDrive, which can be connected to the remote desktop.

How do I access Apporto?

  • To log into Apporto, visit https://stjohns.apporto.com/ and click Log In, then sign in with your St. John's username and password if prompted.

  • Alternatively, visit https://signon.stjohns.edu/ and sign in with your St. John’s University email address and password, then click the Apporto application.

  • After signing in, click the Launch button below “Windows Desktop." The desktop will appear in a new browser tab or window.

You may need to disable your popup blocker if the desktop does not appear after clicking Launch.

There are a limited number of seats available (think of a physical lab on campus that only has so many workstations), IT must manually grant access to students or faculty. Students and instructors in classes needing lab software will be given access at the start of the semester and will lose access after the end of the semester.

How do I use the virtual desktop?

Apporto's virtual desktop works like any Windows 10 computer. When you log in for the first time, you will be presented with instructions that you should follow to learn about the features specific to Apporto. Other applications can be accessed as if you were working on a local Windows 10 computer.

Please see the following documentation and videos for more information on how to use Apporto's unique features:

Where can I store my documents?

Apporto can connect you to your OneDrive. It is strongly recommended that you set up your OneDrive connection as soon as you log in. Once the Apporto desktop loads, double-click the icon named Cloud Mounter.

A new window will open. Under Start a New Connection, select OneDrive.

Click Connect Now.

Enter your full St. John's email address (firstname.lastnameYY@my.stjohns.edu) and click Next.

You will be redirected to Signon. Please enter your St. John's email address and password and click Sign In.

Answer your multi-factor authentication prompt (MFA).

Congratulations, you are now connected to OneDrive in Apporto. When this opens, you will now be able to see all of the contents of your OneDrive folder. Continue to save your work to your OneDrive folder, which is now mapped as Network Drive O.

What software is available on the virtual desktop?
