As of October 2023, The University has engaged Carr Business' Systems, Inc. to implement a Managed Print Services for all departments at the university. This service provides a range of benefits, including reduced print costs, improved printer service and support with a dedicated technician, and a reduction in toner and expendable costs. Additionally, as part of this agreement, Carr will replace more than 100 of the oldest printers in our fleet at no additional cost to add to our efficiency and productivity.
If you are using a shared, networked printer, there is nothing you need to do. From now on, you will automatically receive a toner delivery when the toner is running low without the need to request or purchase directly as toner will now be centrally managed and supplied for all desktop printers by Carr Business Systems. These networked printers have been connected to a proprietary software application that allows Carr to maintain our desktop printer fleets and provides them with automatic alerts when toner levels are low.
If you currently use a printer directly connected to your laptop or desktop, please go to ithelp.stjohns.edu, click on “Request a New Service,” and fill out the Toner Order Form under “Printing and Copy Services.” The toner will then be delivered directly to your office.
Please note that toner purchases through Staples or other external vendors will no longer be permitted or authorized.
FAQs
How will the toner be ordered?
For local printers, toner is ordered through an ithelp.stjohns.edu form: Office Printer Toner Request.
For network and shared printers, the toners are ordered automatically so you do not have to do anything on your part. If you are not receiving toner automatically for your network printer, please fill out Office Printer Toner Request and note that it is a network. We will work to get the issue resolved so that you will be receiving toner going forward.
How quickly will toner arrive when the printer reports low toner?
Automatic orders arrive in one to three days (i.e., networked or shared printers)
For toner ordered through our form, expect a three-to-five-day turnaround from the order date.
Will funding in current budgets for toner be removed?
Funding for this new service will come from existing office supply budget resources. The budget team is currently identifying the toner spend by unit for FY23. Any proposed budget transfers will be discussed with the units prior to transfers being executed.
