This article provide instructions on “ How to e-mail students in the Canvas LMS”. Below are step by step procedures.

  • Click the inbox logo on left hand global navigation.
  • Select Compose New Message (the pencil & paper logo)

  • Select the course from which you wish to send the message, in the drop-down menu. 




  • Click the postage stamp icon to the right of the ‘To’ field. 
  • Select ‘All in’ to send a message to all users; or alternately manually select individual users to e-mail.

  • Fill in your subject line by clicking into the subject box.
  • Type your text into the body.
  • Click Send


Note: Students now receive this a message in their Canvas Inbox. As well, an e-mail notification is triggered to be sent to their St. John’s e-mail accounts automatically.
